Othman Louanjli is someone who enjoys acting. His preferred method of studying the craft is to regularly visit the cinema. Acting, of course, is not just limited to film productions. Both professional and amateur actors spend a lot of time studying the various skills needed to become a master of their craft.
Acting training and education may come in various forms. It may be simply practising one’s skills regularly in a local amateur dramatic society. Alternatively, it may take the form of a more formal educational qualification. Acting qualifications and courses can be obtained via a course at a university or college, or by attending a specialised dramatic establishment. There are only very rare cases in which a professional actor has not studied the craft before and during their career.
Whilst college, universities and dancing institutions may be geared towards adult actors, there are also options for those of a younger age. Younger actors can attend a variety of acting classes and professional schools that are geared towards performers who are under the age of 18.
Regardless of age, a person can employ a variety of methods in order to hone their craft. This can include method acting, mime, acting for camera, physical theatre, and psychotechnique.
Actors require confidence in their profession for two reasons. First, they need to appear confident when they are in front of the camera. To get up in front of many people on set, in the knowledge that your performance may be seen by many people, will of course require a high level of confidence.
Second, the auditioning process is one that requires a large amount of self-confidence. This is something that, of course, continues throughout an actor’s entire career. Even hugely successful actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio probably had to face audition rejections early on in their career!
To deal with these rejections requires self-belief and an ability to pick oneself up following any failures. An audition rejection may not even have anything to do with skill; it may be that the actor was simply a bad fit for the part.
Acting out a role within a production is not just a solo endeavour. To fully bring a character to life is a collaborative effort between the actor, director, script writer, and the rest of the production team. Input from other sources may be required as well and of course, it will take a full cast to bring any script to life.
You may not be able to make it, at least not right away, as a famous actor, known around the world for your on-screen performances. However, this should not stop you from joining a theatre group or acting school, or from persevering with auditions. Why stop doing something that you love?
